As the F1 ridiculous season continues, Guenther Steiner has stated that conversations between Haas and Mick Schumacher about continuing his contract have not yet commenced.

Guenther Steiner, the team manager of the Haas Formula 1 squad, has stated that negotiations to prolong Mick Schumacher’s tenure with the squad have not yet started.

After moving up from Formula 2 as the defending champion for a debut season in a bad car in 2021, Schumacher is currently competing in his second F1 season.

While two significant accidents in Saudi Arabia and Monaco cost the squad millions of dollars in repair costs, Schumacher’s 2022 season has been mixed. He collected his first points in Great Britain and added to them the following time out in Austria.

While Schumacher’s future in Formula One is uncertain because his contract expires at the end of the latest season, he has occasionally had trouble keeping up with driver Kevin Magnussen.

Additionally, his supervisor Steiner acknowledged that the firms have not yet begun contract extension discussions.

Haas wants to observe Schumacher’s F1 future and see what happens

Steiner revealed exclusively on the most latest episode of RacingNews365.com’s podcast that Haas had not been impacted by current F1 racer market activity, despite the fact that Schumacher had recently been connected to the empty Aston Martin seat following Sebastian Vettel’s departure.

“I don’t really know what Mick has done, and we have not spoken about a drive for next year with Mick,” said Steiner.

“He hasn’t spoken to us and we haven’t spoken to him – we want to see what’s happening.

“This Aston Martin thing happened very quickly and so nobody had time to really think about it, but there were rumours he [Schumacher] could replace Vettel, but that went away pretty quick.

“We didn’t look at what other people were doing.”

Steiner further reaffirmed that any determination on Schumacher’s future with the squad will be reached in concert with Ferrari and that “nothing unilateral” on any side.

After the last European race, the Italian Grand Prix on September 11, he provided a time range for making a choice.

The Oscar Piastri Alpine situation surprises Steiner

Since Alpine had “taken him up” to the edge of F1, Steiner said on the podcast that he was astonished by the present Oscar Piastri standoff with them.

“It was an open secret that Fernando was talking to Aston Martin when Vettel left, and I wasn’t that surprised by that,” explained Steiner.

“Piastri was seen as an ‘Alpine driver’ in my opinion, they brought him up, brought him to this level and helped him, so I thought for sure he’d be driving there in F1 after Fernando left.

“I think there’s more behind it, but I don’t have any details of it.”
